How To Avoid Tool Vibration In CNC Machining

Jul 22, 2022

There are two main factors that produce vibration in production: one is the strength of the tool body itself, and the other is the size of the cutting force. These two vibration causes can be solved by the following methods.

1. Strength of the tool itself

The thicker and shorter the strength of the tool body itself, the greater the strength. Therefore, if you want to solve the vibration problem by changing the tool strength, you can try to shorten the tool length and strengthen the width, which can well solve the problem of tool vibration. If the machining length is required, the following problems need to be paid attention to:

(1) The extension length of the steel cutter bar shall be controlled below 3 times the diameter.

(2) The extension length of heavy metal cutter bar shall be controlled below 5 times the diameter.

(3) If you need to lengthen, you can use the shock-absorbing tool bar.

2. Magnitude of cutting force

The smaller the cutting force is, the smaller the vibration is. If you want to solve the vibration problem from the cutting force, you can use a larger rake angle, a smaller blade width, reduce the feed, and so on, which can reduce the cutting force.

In addition, the phenomenon of tool vibration in machining can also be solved by the tool.

When machining parts, the first thing we think of is to adjust the cutting parameters, such as reducing the linear cutting speed.

Another method is to explain how to solve the tool vibration in milling from the perspective of tools. It is more important to solve the potential vibration factors when selecting a tool than to think of solutions after vibration occurs in processing.

Choose a thick tool bar, and the short hanging depth point should be as short as possible. The thicker and shorter the tool, the greater the tool strength. This can not only reduce the vibration in the milling process, but also have a significant effect on improving the tool life and processing efficiency.

In order to improve machining efficiency, multi tooth cutters should be selected as much as possible. However, under unstable working conditions, such as insufficient rigidity of parts, long tool overhang, etc., in order to reduce the cutting force, we should try to choose sparse tooth tools. There are still many things to pay attention to in terms of cutting tools. Pay more attention to the vibration in the milling process when selecting cutting tools
