What kinds of milling cutters are there?
1. Classify according to the material of milling cutter
(1) High speed tool steel milling cutters: milling cutters and forming milling cutters with complex shapes are mostly high-speed tool steel milling cutters. Milling cutters with large diameter and not too thin are often made into inserted teeth to save high-speed tool steel materials.
(2) Cemented carbide milling cutter: a milling cutter that uses cemented carbide inserts in the cutting part.

2. Classification by milling cutter use
(1) Milling cutter for milling plane: mainly cylindrical milling cutter and end milling cutter. Cylindrical milling cutters are divided into coarse teeth and fine teeth, which are used for rough milling and semi fine milling of planes. There are three types of end milling cutters: integral type, inserted type and indexable (mechanical clamping) type, which are used for rough and fine milling various planes. When machining smaller planes, end mills and three face edge mills can also be used.
(2) Milling cutters for milling right angle grooves: mainly end milling cutters, three face edge milling cutters, keyway milling cutters, disk groove milling cutters, saw blade milling cutters, etc.
A. End milling cutter: used for milling grooves, spiral grooves and holes of various shapes on workpieces; Milling the plane and side of the bench; Milling various disc cams and cylindrical cams; And milling the inner and outer surfaces according to the profile.

B. Three sided edge milling cutters: straight teeth, staggered teeth and inserted teeth. It is used for milling all kinds of grooves, bench planes, sides of workpieces and their boss planes.
C. Keyway milling cutter: used for milling keyways.
D. Disk groove milling cutter: used for milling screw grooves and grooves on other workpieces.
E. Saw blade milling cutter: used for milling various grooves and cutting of plates, bars and various profiles.
(3) Milling cutters for milling special grooves: mainly T-shaped groove milling cutters, dovetail groove milling cutters, angle milling cutters, etc.
T-groove milling cutter is used for milling T-groove. Dovetail groove milling cutter is used for milling dovetail groove. Angle milling cutter is divided into single angle milling cutter, symmetric double angle milling cutter and asymmetric double angle milling cutter. The single angle milling cutter is used for the opening of the outer circular tooth slots and end face tooth slots of various cutters, and milling the tooth shapes of various serrated tooth clutches and ratchets. Symmetrical double angle milling cutter is used for milling various V-shaped grooves and tooth shapes of sharp teeth and trapezoidal tooth clutches. Asymmetric double angle milling cutters are mainly used for opening cylindrical straight teeth, oblique teeth and spiral grooves on various cutters.
(4) Milling cutter for milling special shaped surface: it is a shaped milling cutter specially designed according to the shape of special shaped surface, also known as special shaped milling cutter.
There are mainly convex semicircle milling cutter, concave semicircle milling cutter, module gear milling cutter, etc. Convex semicircle milling cutter is used for milling semicircle groove and concave semicircle forming surface. Concave semicircle milling cutter is used for milling convex semicircle forming surface. Gear module milling cutter is used for milling involute gears. The blade inner arc forming milling cutter is a special milling cutter used for milling the inner arc surface of the blade basin of the turbine blade. Milling cutters for milling special shaped surfaces are generally relieving cutters.

3. Classification by milling cutter tooth structure
(1) Sharp tooth milling cutter: on the section perpendicular to the main cutting edge, the profile of its tooth back is composed of straight lines or broken lines. This kind of milling cutter is easy to manufacture and grind, and the edge is sharp. The commonly used milling cutters in production are mostly sharp tooth milling cutters, such as cylindrical milling cutters, end milling cutters, end milling cutters and three face edge milling cutters.
(2) Shovel tooth milling cutter: on the section of the cutter tooth, the profile of its tooth back is an Archimedes spiral (i.e. plane spiral), and the tooth back must be shovel out on the shovel machine tool. When grinding this kind of milling cutter, only the rake face is ground. As long as the rake angle is unchanged, the tooth profile of the cutter after grinding is also unchanged. The rake angle of the relieving milling cutter is generally 0 degrees to facilitate grinding. In order to ensure that the tooth shape remains unchanged after grinding, the forming milling cutter is generally a relieving milling cutter.
