Clamping Method Of Milling How To Clamp Workpiece With Flat Tongs

Aug 01, 2022

Installation and calibration of flat tongs

1. Installation of flat tongs: when installing flat tongs, wipe the bottom surface of the Tong seat and the workbench of the milling machine. Generally, the position of the flat tongs on the worktable should be left of the center in the length direction and the center in the width direction of the worktable, so as to facilitate operation. The jaw direction should be determined according to the length of the workpiece. For long workpieces, the jaw (plane) should be perpendicular to the spindle axis of the milling machine. On the vertical milling machine, it should be parallel to the feeding direction. For short workpieces, the jaw is parallel to the spindle axis of the milling machine, and should be perpendicular to the feeding direction on the vertical milling machine. During rough milling and semi fine milling, it is hoped that the milling force will point to the stable and firm fixed jaw.

When processing ordinary workpieces, the flat tongs can be installed with positioning keys. During installation, put the positioning key on the base of the flat jaw pliers into the central T-shaped groove of the workbench, push the pliers body with both hands, so that the side of the same side of the two positioning keys is against the side of the central T-shaped groove, and then fix the pliers base, and then use the zero score line on the pliers body to match the score line on the base, rotate the pliers body, so that the fixed jaws are vertical or parallel to the spindle axis of the milling machine, and can also be adjusted to the required angle as needed.

When machining workpieces with high relative position accuracy requirements, such as milling grooves, the jaw and the spindle axis are required to have high perpendicularity or parallelism. At this time, the fixed jaw should be corrected.

2. Correction of fixed jaw

(1) Correct the perpendicularity between the fixed jaw and the spindle axis of the milling machine with a scribe: for processing long workpieces, the fixed jaw is generally installed perpendicularly to the spindle axis of the milling machine. At this time, the scribe can be used for correction. Clamp the scoring needle between the washer of the milling cutter rod, make the scoring needle tip close to the iron plane of the fixed jaw, move the workbench longitudinally, observe and adjust the position of the flat jaw pliers, so that the gap between the scoring needle tip and the iron plane of the fixed jaw is uniform and consistent within the full length of the jaw, and the fixed jaw is perpendicular to the spindle axis of the milling machine. After tightening the jaw body, recheck it to avoid displacement during tightening. The accuracy of the method of correcting with scratch needle is low, and it is often used for rough correction.

(2) Use a 90 degree angle ruler to correct that the fixed jaw is parallel to the spindle axis of the milling machine: when the fixed jaw of the flat jaw is required to be installed parallel to the spindle axis of the milling machine, use a 90 degree angle ruler to correct. During calibration, loosen the fastening nut of the tong body so that the plane of the fixed jaw is roughly parallel to the axis of the spindle. Press the bottom surface of the ruler seat of the 90 degree angle ruler against the vertical guide rail surface of the bed, adjust the clamp body so that the iron plane of the fixed jaw is close to the measuring surface outside the seedling of the 90 degree angle ruler, then tighten the clamp body and recheck again.

(3) Use a dial indicator to calibrate whether the fixed jaw is vertical or parallel to the spindle axis of the milling machine: when machining more precise workpieces, use a dial indicator to accurately calibrate the position of the fixed jaw. During calibration, suck the magnetic gauge base on the guide rail surface of the beam, install the dial gauge, make the measuring rod of the gauge perpendicular to the plane of the fixed jaw iron, the measuring contact touches the plane of the jaw iron, compress the measuring rod by 0.3-0.5mm, move the workbench longitudinally, and observe the reading of the dial gauge. If it is consistent within the full length of the fixed jaw, the fixed jaw is perpendicular to the spindle axis of the milling machine. Tighten the clamp body gently and firmly. After passing the re inspection, tighten the clamp body firmly.

When the fixed jaw is parallel to the spindle axis of the milling machine with a dial indicator, the magnetic gauge base can be sucked onto the vertical guide rail surface of the machine bed, and the workbench can be moved horizontally. The correction method is the same.
