A milling machine is a metal cutting machine tool in which the milling cutter rotates and the workpiece moves relative to the milling cutter. The milling cutter is installed on the shank. Use a washer or sleeve for positioning. One end of the shank is fixed on the spindle, and the other end rotates in a bearing located in the shank seat.

The spindle of a milling machine is driven by an electric motor through a series of gears mounted on the bed. The worktable of a common milling machine can only move perpendicular to the spindle. The universal milling machine, on the other hand, has a table that can be rotated on a cross slide to mill gear teeth, helical teeth and helical grooves.
