Which Industries Are Your Manufacturing Processes Suitable For?

Aug 03, 2022

1. Aerospace

The vast majority of engineers and product designers in the aerospace industry use CNC to process their customized parts because of its high precision and a range of qualified materials and finishing options. In cooperation with aerospace companies, we see that they apply a lot of machining because they can design strict tolerances for metals such as aluminum, steel and titanium. For workpieces that do not use sheet metal processing or manufacturing, fused deposition modeling (FDM) and selective laser sintering (SLS) are common choices because they achieve complexity and scalability at a lower cost.

2. Medical equipment

The most popular process for engineers and product designers in this industry is direct metal laser sintering (DMLS). Metal 3D printing using DMLS provides strength, accuracy and complex geometry, while the cost is only a small part of traditional processing. SLS 3D printing is also a popular choice for non-metallic parts and prototypes. When high-precision and customized materials become the main focus, NC machining is still the manufacturing method required for some medical devices.

3. Technology and consumers

Although technology industry parts can be manufactured using a variety of processes, they may be most suitable for FDM manufacturing. FDM provides higher strength, material selection and larger capacity. Finer models for rapid prototyping are well suited for photopolymers, such as polyjet rigid and rubber materials, including the option of building multi-material demos. For more cosmetics and end consumer products, the industry usually turns to polyurethane casting to meet the requirements of surface finish, performance and color that amaze the market. Polyurethane castings are usually the precursor of mass manufacturing (such as molding).

4. Automobile

CNC processing is the preferred manufacturing method for engineers in the automotive industry. When designing customized auto parts, it is important to have a variety of materials to choose from, as well as various customized finishing options. In the factory, automobile production engineers are using the large-scale manufacturing of FDM to specially manufacture assembly fixtures and fixtures up to three feet in length!
