Staff engaged in precision parts processing should be aware that precision parts processing cannot use the repair treatment used for conventional parts such as welding. Once there is an omission in any process in the whole processing process, it will bring irreparable serious consequences, resulting in the scrapping of the whole precision parts and unnecessary waste. Precision EDM is often the last process in the machining process, so its machining quality should be strictly controlled. Only by formulating a standardized and clear processing process can the processing personnel operate step by step, reduce the error rate and improve the processing quality. Generally, the process specification of precision EDM includes the following aspects:

The electrode disassembled by the design department must meet the requirements of precision machining, and special attention should be paid to the treatment of the thin wall and fine parts of the electrode; The positioning of the processing drawing must be accurate, and the processing data contained must be clear and comprehensive. For those that are difficult to be marked clearly with the drawing, the detailed 3D basis of the workpiece should be provided to the processing personnel; All parts must go through the previous processes such as stress relief, demagnetization and pre machining before performing precision EDM; The positioning datum plane of the workpiece shall be subject to the fine grinding and chamfering treatment of the grinder first; The electrode used for precision EDM shall have a reference angle that can distinguish the direction and correspond to the reference angle of the workpiece. The depth positioning reference of all electrodes shall be uniformly specified; The electrode number and rough and fine mark shall be marked on the electrode, and the detailed processing information such as the number of electrodes, the scaling amount of electrode size, processing tolerance and surface roughness requirements shall be given on the processing drawing.

Requirements for processing environment

Precision EDM also has strict requirements for the machining environment, because this machining technology is very sensitive to vibration, dust and temperature, and it is easy to affect the machining quality because of these external factors. Therefore, a special finishing room should be set up for high-precision machining, which can effectively avoid the vibration of other machine tools from interfering with the processing, and isolate the dust. Air conditioning equipment should be installed in the processing room, and the room temperature should be controlled between 18 and 22 degrees Celsius, so as to avoid the thermal expansion and cold contraction of the size of precision parts due to temperature changes, which will affect the dimensional accuracy of parts. Only in such a machining environment can precision EDM machine tools play the expected machining performance.

Requirements for tools

In precision EDM, some tools are needed to complete the auxiliary operation, so the accuracy of the tools will also directly affect the accuracy of machining. Therefore, it is necessary to use high-precision tools for precision EDM, such as flat tongs, sinusoidal disks, punch forming grinders, gauge blocks, dial indicators and instruments for dimensional measurement.

Requirements for technicians

Precision EDM is ultimately achieved by the control and operation of machining technicians. Therefore, processing technicians are also one of the important factors for the completion of precision machining. In addition to requiring technicians to be proficient, experienced and skilled in the processing process, the working attitude is also an important aspect, requiring technicians to work seriously, be responsible and operate carefully.
