Top Ten Most Difficult Deburring Materials What To Do When Encountering Them

Jul 28, 2022

Introduce the most cost-effective burr removal methods at present.

compound material

Composites usually have high specific strength, such as carbon fiber and aluminum composites, which are often used in aerospace and other fields that require high precision. But the burr removal of its parts is also very difficult. In order to ensure the accuracy of parts, special tools need to be used for processing, which requires close cooperation with tool manufacturers to make full use of their knowledge reserves.

Cross hole

The three-dimensional edge structure of cross holes leads to burrs at every point on the intersection line, and the thickness and height of burrs at each point may be different. Therefore, the deburring process based on the same size of burrs is often not ideal for cross holes. We take the crankshaft of automobile engine as an example. In order to remove the burrs in its cross deep holes, the requirements for the production beat are very high, and all deburring processing needs to be completed in 4 seconds or less.

Transmission housing

There are a large number of narrow channels in the automobile transmission housing, and there are high incidence areas of burrs on each side of the channels. To remove such burrs, nylon brush or other types of brush filled with abrasive should be used to brush and remove burrs by moving back and forth on the edge of the channel.

Jet engine integral bladed disc

The material used to manufacture the integral blade disc of jet engine is heat-resistant superalloy, which can work normally at a high temperature of 1650 ℃. The blade disc must have accurate contour accuracy to form air flow and exert propulsion force on the aircraft, and burrs must not be produced. In order to achieve this goal, processing enterprises usually use robots to handle workpieces and adopt special NC machining programs that can limit the generation of burrs.

Peek resin

Peek resin has outstanding physical properties, chemical inertia and biocompatibility. It is a kind of non-metallic material widely used. This material may produce small burrs as thin as feathers after processing, which is difficult to remove with props. A micron level soft abrasive tool can be used to remove the burrs on the surface of PEEK resin at high speed without damaging the geometry and surface finish of complex parts.

Teflon

Teflon, also known as polytetrafluoroethylene, its parts burr will shift when cutting, and will bend when sandblasting. To remove the burr on the surface of Teflon, the key is to use extremely sharp tools, or freeze the parts before cutting or sandblasting.

thread

When processing a screw hole, burrs often appear on both sides of the thread crown and the edge of the tooth groove at its inlet and outlet. Manual deburring, electrochemical deburring and surftran thermal deburring processes can be adopted, which can effectively achieve the goal. In addition, the perfect burr free thread can be processed by thread rolling process.

Aircraft fuselage structural members

In order to reduce weight, there are many milled cavities on the structural parts of the aircraft fuselage, which may produce burrs. Vibration polishing is a commonly used deburring process for such parts, but a larger polishing machine is required. Deburring with a brush is a more economical and effective method, which can be used to remove the burrs when the workpiece is clamped on the machine tool.

Micro mechanical parts

The ultra-high precision of manufacturing micro parts requires that the edge should be free of burrs under a 30 times microscope, and the smooth edge radius should not exceed 0.025 mm. The most effective methods to deal with this kind of burr are chemical deburring, electrolytic polishing, centrifugal roller polishing and manual deburring.

Micro medical devices

The edges of micro medical devices, such as surgical instruments, must be clear and flat without burrs. This requires extremely fine edge finishing on the tiny edge of the device to remove the burrs.
