Requirements For Materials Of Precision Machine Parts Processing

Aug 15, 2022

Not all materials can be processed for precision mechanical parts. Some materials have too high hardness, crossing the hardness of the machined parts, and may break the parts. Therefore, these materials are not suitable for precision mechanical parts processing, unless they are made of special materials or cut by laser.

The materials for processing precision mechanical parts are divided into two categories, metallic materials and non-metallic materials. For metal materials, the hardness is higher than stainless steel, followed by cast iron, followed by copper, followed by aluminum. The processing of ceramics and plastics is attributed to the processing of non-metallic materials.

The machining of precision mechanical parts mainly requires the hardness of materials. For some occasions, the higher the hardness of materials, the better. It is only limited to the hardness requirements of machined parts. The machined materials should not be too hard. It is assumed that they are harder than machined parts and cannot be machined. The soft and hard materials should be moderate, which should be at least one level lower than the hardness of the machine parts. Together, it depends on the role of the processed devices and the reasonable selection of materials for the machine parts.

There are still some requirements for materials in the processing of precision mechanical parts, and not all materials are suitable for processing, such as too soft or too hard materials, the former is unnecessary for processing, and the latter is impossible for processing. Therefore, we must pay attention to the density of materials before processing.

Assuming that the density is too large, the hardness is also very large. If the hardness exceeds the hardness of the machine part (lathe tool), it will not be processed. It will not only damage the parts, but also pose a danger, such as the lathe tool flying out to hurt people. Therefore, generally speaking, for mechanical processing, the material should be lower than the hardness of the machine tool, so that it can be processed.
