1. Castings
Rough parts with complex shapes should be made by casting. At present, most castings are cast in sand mold, which is divided into manual molding of wood mold and machine molding of metal mold. Wood mold manual molding castings have low precision, large machining surface allowance and low production efficiency. It is suitable for single piece small batch production or casting of large parts. Metal mold machine modeling has high productivity and high casting accuracy, but the equipment cost is high, and the weight of castings is also limited. It is suitable for small and medium-sized castings in mass production. Secondly, a small number of small castings with high quality requirements can adopt special casting, such as pressure casting, centrifugal manufacturing and investment casting.

2. Forgings
Forging blanks are generally used for steel parts with high mechanical strength requirements. There are two kinds of Forgings: free forging and die forging. Free forging forgings can be obtained by manual forging (small blank), mechanical hammer forging (medium blank) or press forging (large blank). This kind of forgings has low precision, low productivity, large machining allowance, and the structure of parts must be simple. It is suitable for single piece and small batch production, as well as the manufacture of large forgings. The precision and surface quality of die forgings are better than those of free forgings, and the shape of forgings can also be more complex, so machining allowance can be reduced. The production efficiency of die forging is much higher than that of free forging, but it requires special equipment and forging dies, so it is suitable for medium and small forgings with large batches.

3. Profile
Profiles can be divided into round steel, square steel, hexagonal steel, flat steel, angle steel, channel steel, I-beam and other profiles with special sections according to the section shape. Profiles are hot rolled and cold drawn. Hot rolled profile has low precision but low price, which is used for blank of general parts; Cold drawn profiles are small in size, high in precision, and easy to realize automatic feeding, but the price is high. They are mostly used in large batch production and are suitable for automatic machine tool processing.

4. Weldments
Weldment is a combination obtained by welding. The advantages of welding are simple manufacturing, short cycle and material saving. The disadvantages are poor vibration resistance and large deformation. It can only be machined after aging treatment.
