With the rise of the automobile industry, there are more and more five axis CNC machine tools. However, in the current market, there are few real five axis machines (with RTCP function) and many false five axis machines (only for indexing function). What is the true five axis and what is the false five axis? What is the difference between them? The following description is as follows.

The true five axis has RTCP function. It can automatically convert according to the swing length of the spindle and the mechanical coordinates of the rotary table. In programming, only the coordinates of the workpiece need to be considered, not the swing length of the spindle and the position of the rotary table.

Whether the five axes are true or not depends on whether the five axes are linked together. The false five axes can also be linked together. If the spindle has an RTCP true five axis algorithm. It refers to indexing processing. For the true five axes with RTCP function, only one coordinate system needs to be set, and only one tool setting is required. The fake five axis is troublesome.
CNC system with RTCP function can directly use tool tip programming without considering the center distance of rotation axis. After the RTCP mode is applied, the 5-axis machining can be programmed directly for the tool tip instead of the center of the spindle head, so the programming will become much simpler and more efficient.

From the figure, we can see that for the pseudo five axis of the double turntable, multiple coordinates need to be set to achieve the purpose of indexing processing. However, if it is a five axis swing head type, indexing processing cannot be completed, because when the five axis swing head is processed downward, Z does not move alone, but Z moves with X or Y. At this time, the programming of the false five axis will be very troublesome, and the debugging will be more difficult. At this time, the G51 offset function of the three axis cannot be used.
