Introduction to CNC lathe

1. Design CNC parts to be produced. The first thing to do is to create a 3D or 2D model or design to be made. For 2D drawings, DXF is a common format, while for 3D models, the format depends on the drawing tool we use.

2. Convert model / design to description. The movement of the NC lathe is based on programming instructions. If only the model file is sent to the NC lathe, it will not know what to do and how to do it. Each NC controller has several different controllers. Each machine has a different understanding of the code and needs some different parameters. Use the drawing tool to design, assign various tools and machining operation types to the specific elements of the design, and calculate the tool path, which is the path followed by the tool to cut the workpiece. Once these tool paths are calculated by the drawing tool, we can use them to generate and save the G code. After the tool is generated, it should be post processed, and then select the controller in it, so that the drawing tool knows exactly how to translate it. After selecting the controller, we can get the file and export it, which contains the G code. According to the complexity of the processing process, there are many lines of code.

3. Turn the computer to the CNC lathe controller. Nowadays, most CNC lathes are controlled by computers or some special controllers, which are usually used in more expensive or high-end models. For beginners, a computer with a drawing tool connected to CNC is enough.

4. Processing process. We need to control CNC and set zero point (tell the machine where the desired zero point is), and then select this point as the product design. Then move the machine to zero point and pay attention to the machine. There are some tools for us to find the point accurately. Tell the drawing tool to be zero, and then press the cycle start key to start the code, the drawing tool will send the code to the computer, and then the whole process can begin.

How to start CNC machining for beginners

CNC is a wide range of knowledge needs, which requires a lot of time to study and practice. Here are just some key points of learning NC lathe processing.

1. Designing the required parts is the first step of NC machining. Carefully study CAD drawing tools, and then modify them according to manufacturing needs.

2. Understand CNC programming of CNC lathe. CNC programming can be very complex. For beginners, we can also first look at some CNC programming examples to understand the meaning of G code and M code and how they work.

3. The numerical control setting of the lathe is necessary to prepare the machine for running parts, and ensure that all the correct tools and instructions in the tool changer have been installed.

4. Understand the components and structure of CNC machine. For example, CNC lathes are all equipment to complete the machining operation of raw materials. Understand what constitutes CNC lathes and the functions of each component.

5. The common troubleshooting and maintenance of CNC lathes are also very important.
