Processes required for optical accessories processing

Jul 19, 2022

    The surface of the parts that need to be roughly ground in the processing of optical accessories is relatively rough, and its geometry is far from the requirements of the drawing, so it cannot be used for polishing. Therefore, after the rough grinding process of optical parts processing is completed, a fine grinding process must be set up. There are two purposes. One is to increase the surface roughness of the parts to about 0.8 (r1=0.8μm) through the fine grinding process, which is equivalent to the old standard finish level v 7; for perfection. Therefore, fine grinding is an intermediate process between rough grinding and polishing, and it is also an indispensable basic process.

In view of the above reasons, there is no strict limit for the fine grinding process of optical accessories processing, which usually refers to the processing of granular abrasives from 280# or 320# to w1 and w10. Diamond particle processing, the process between coarse grinding and polishing is often referred to as the fine grinding process. Its functions and requirements are the same as the above-mentioned fine grinding. In order to facilitate the distinction, the following process is called fine grinding with granular abrasives; the processing with diamond tools is called fine grinding.

Optical accessories processing fine grinding process characteristics

After the optical parts are processed and finely ground, the surface roughness of the workpiece is low, the depth of the concave-convex layer is close to the particle size of the polishing agent, and the surface shape is basically close to the drawing

The angle detected by the goniometer is required to be basically error-free;

As long as the part structure allows for fine grinding, most are machined into discs. It must be pointed out that if a mechanized process is used, the milling is performed with a diamond grinding wheel, while the diamond particle fine grinding method is usually done before the rough grinding.

The machine tools and tools used for fine grinding of optical accessories are more precise than those used for rough grinding, especially plane grinding tools, spherical grinding tools, etc., which must be modified repeatedly, and can only be used to meet the requirements after trial grinding and inspection;

The cleaning work is demanding, and the coarse sand shall not be brought into the fine sand. For this reason, workpieces, abrasive tools and machine tables must be cleaned after each sanding. .After fine grinding, use a soapy solution for a finer cleaning.
