Precautions for machining keyway milling by milling machine

Precautions

The longitudinal handle cannot be shaken in the wrong direction or over the scale mark; the tool setting scale of the lifting workbench should be marked first, and then the depth should be marked (it is best to mark it on the workbench guide rail and the dial at the same time);

As the diameter of the part changes, the center of the part needs to be re-aligned: the tool should be clamped to prevent the tool from dropping and the groove depth will be out of tolerance;

If the vertical milling cutter is used for machining, since there is no cutting edge in the center of the milling cutter, a drop hole must be drilled at one end of the slot in advance before the vertical milling cutter can be used to mill the keyway.

When measuring, the tool must be stopped before measuring; when clamping, pay attention to the clamping position of the workpiece to prevent the milling machine from reaching the limit during the milling process;

After the milling depth is adjusted to the size, there is no need to adjust it again, just move horizontally and mill to the groove width requirement; the steel parts must be filled with coolant to prevent the tool from wearing too fast.


1. The size of the milled keyway slot does not match the pattern requirements. The circular runout and end face runout of the milling cutter blade are too large, so that the keyway size is milled large; the size of the milling cutter is not properly selected; when the end mill is used to mill the keyway, the knife yield phenomenon occurs. Cut the workpiece back and forth several times, and mill the width of the slot to a larger size; there is an error in measuring the size, or the value of the dial is wrong, so that the size of the slot is milled wrong.


2. The shape and position accuracy of the keyway do not meet the requirements of the drawing. In the following cases, the two sides of the keyway are asymmetrical with the center of the workpiece.

It is mainly to offset when setting the tool, and to offset the milling when expanding and milling both sides. When measuring the size is incorrect, mill according to the measured value, and offset the slot;

The side surface of the keyway is not parallel to the side surface of the workpiece, and the bottom surface of the groove is not parallel to the bottom surface of the workpiece.

The reason is that the fixed jaws of the flat-nose pliers are not calibrated properly;

The selected pads are not parallel: the workpiece is not calibrated when clamping the workpiece;

Concave surfaces appear on both sides of the keyway: The reason is that the zero position of the table is not accurate. When milling with a three-sided edge milling cutter, concave surfaces appear on both sides of the groove, and the two sides are not parallel.
