How is the coupling assembled?

1. Flange coupling

Flange coupling is to connect two half couplings with flanges with two shafts with ordinary flat keys, and then connect the two half couplings with bolts to transmit motion and torque. This coupling has two main structural forms:

(1) By reaming holes, the two shafts are aligned and neutralized by bolts, and the torque is transmitted by the compression and shear of the bolt rod;

(2) The shoulder on one half coupling is aligned with the groove on the other half coupling. The bolts connecting the two half couplings can be grade A and grade B ordinary bolts, and the torque is transmitted by the friction torque of the joint surface of the two half couplings.

2. Cross slider coupling

The surface of 45 steel needs heat treatment to improve its hardness; Q275 steel can also be used without heat treatment when the requirements are low. In order to reduce friction and wear, oil should be injected into the oil hole of the intermediate plate for lubrication. The cross slider coupling, also known as the metal slider coupling, has a circular slider, which is driven by steel or a transmission with low speed and large transmission torque.

The cross slider coupling is composed of two half couplings with grooves on the end face and an intermediate plate with convex teeth on both sides. Because the convex teeth can slide in the groove, the relative displacement between the two shafts during installation and operation can be compensated. Since the half coupling and the intermediate plate form a moving pair and cannot rotate relatively, the angular velocity of the driving shaft and the driven shaft should be equal. However, when there is relative displacement between the two shafts, the intermediate plate will produce a large centrifugal force, which will increase the dynamic load and wear. Therefore, when selecting, it should be noted that its working speed should not be greater than the specified value. This kind of coupling is generally used for rotating speed n<250r/min, the rigidity of the shaft is large, and there is no severe impact. The transmitted torque is also small, which is generally used on small units.


3. Serpentine spring coupling

The serpentine spring is embedded between the teeth on the flange of the two coupling halves to realize the elastic connection of the two coupling halves. During operation, the torque is transmitted from one shaft (half coupling) to another shaft through the spring. Therefore, this kind of coupling has the function of absorbing vibration and impact.


4. Gear coupling

This kind of coupling allows the two shafts to have axial, radial displacement and axial deflection, so it can speed up the installation progress and save the installation cost. It is composed of two half shaft sleeves with half teeth and two half shells with inner teeth. The outer gear shaft sleeve is fixed on the shaft end with a key, the teeth of the housing are consistent with the teeth of the outer gear shaft sleeve, the two halves of the housing are bolted and fixed, and lubricating oil is injected into the housing to reduce the wear between teeth. This kind of coupling can save energy, transmit large torque and have low requirements for neutrality, but its damping and cushioning capacity is small.
